Definition
Anonymisation makes it impossible to re-identify a natural person, including by combining multiple sources. Anonymised data is no longer subject to the GDPR.
Context & regulatory framework
The French supervisory authority (CNIL) and the Article 29 Working Party have defined three criteria: singling out must be impossible, linkability must be impossible, and inference must be impossible. If any one of them is not met, the data is considered pseudonymised.
