Definition
Personal data is any information that allows a natural person to be identified, directly or indirectly: name, email, IP address, phone number, customer ID, geolocation data, and so on (Article 4 of the GDPR).
Context & regulatory framework
The notion of personal data is interpreted broadly: even a pseudonymised identifier remains personal data as long as it can be linked to an individual. Conversely, truly anonymised data (where re-identification is impossible) falls outside the scope of the GDPR.
